Welcome back Readers, this is the Fan Fic Reviewer reviewing the good, the bad, and those that should never exist in the world of fan fiction. I have decided that I don’t read enough smut. Shocking, I know. I came to this conclusion as I started reading a series of smut fics and found that I’m missing out on some writing gems (maybe not precise stones but gems nonetheless) because I keep looking for plot. So, I shall endeavor to read and review more smut fics, dear Readers, and unearth these gems. In the meantime, here’s Clockwork.
This is an interesting smut-fic. Now the disclaimer stuff says that there is no plot but I’ll argue that and say that the plot is NiGHTS trying to find release from this terrible burden of being in heat for 30 days. That’s the plot. It just so happens that the release comes in the form of a helpful friend with benefits.
Now, I call this story interesting and it’s because the characters are genderless yet the story makes NiGHTS a character who uses the male pronouns (he, him, etc.) but has a female body. Meanwhile Reala is a character who has a male body and, from what I read, uses the male pronouns. So it becomes interesting while reading this character (NiGHTS) to whom the pronouns “him” and “he” are attached to yet all his body features are feminine. It’s refreshing.
Now the story itself is mostly smut but the lead up is nice. It explains NiGHT’s problem and how much he dreads it and the ways he tries to cope with his biological needs. One of those coping methods is to find a hiding place and masturbate. It is this time around though that his friend Reala catches him in the act and once he has the full details of NiGHT’s dilemma offers assistance. Insert the smut here.
The other part about this story that is actually really nice is the writing itself. It’s really good writing and there are sentences that are just poetic in content and delivery. It elevates the story from simply being smut to being a sort of elegant smut. Other stories will use “vagina,” “throbbing cock,” or “hardened dick” but those words have no place in this story. Those words are replaced with “pink opening,” “slit,” “member,” and “entrance.” The only time a vulgar word is used is “fuck” and it’s not in reference to sex. So bravo!
Finally, the last part that I like about this story is that the relationship is exactly as it is. There are no sudden declarations of love and a relationship to figure out afterwards. Nope. It’s purely a friend helping out a friend in heat. Done and done. Although the story does allude to possible future trysts! I’m just happy that this story didn’t try to pass the friends with benefits as a romance that finally blossomed; I’ve seen other stories do this and it just feels clumsy and unnecessary.
Would I recommend this story? Sure. If you enjoy reading smut then go for it! It’s a nice read and it’s not overly long. In fact, it’s rather a pleasant read.
